On cold winter days there is noting like a small glass of “obs” to warm you up. Whether rich or poor, South Africans in the know all appreciate this national treasure. Whilst it won’t garner any awards from Spectator Wine Magazine it wins the hearts of all its many followers.
We have the best ultra marathon in the world. Around 25000 runners enter and 14000 who finish the run from Durban to Pietermaritzburg going in the opposite direction every alternate year. The race draws some of the best marathon runners in the world.
I am so proud of South Africa, our elections apparatus, the IEC and all the voters. Within three days of the election we could release final results. This is democracy at its best.
South Africa has 23 million registered voters. That means 23 million participants in the democratic process. 23 million voices, 23 million conversations, 23 million choices.
The South African music scene is vibrant, eclectic and experimental all at the same time. We have luminaries such as Hugh Masekela, Ladysmith Black Mabaso and the Palortones all bringing us international recognition.
I just love it that we stage free and fair elections.
The vast variety of fruit, vegetable and fynbos makes South Africa a foodie paradise. The carnivore is not neglected either. The finest Karoo lamb, the best Outshoorn ostrich and the tastiest Boerewors all make eating in SA a must.
